Accessibility Statement of the OuluREPO Repository of the University of Oulu

This accessibility statement applies to the OuluREPO Repository of the University of Oulu. The statement was written on 28 April 2023.

OuluREPO is the University of Oulu publication repository, established in June 2023. The publications from the previously used Jultika repository have been migrated to the OuluREPO repository. Publications and materials produced at the university, such as doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s theses, research articles, publication series and educational materials are stored in the repository.

Accessibility Assessment of the Digital Service

University of Oulu is responsible for the accessibility of the publications stored in the repository and has also conducted the accessibility assessment of the publications.

The National Library of Finland is responsible for and has evaluated the accessibility of the user interface.

Non-accessible content

The repository also contains content that is not within the scope of the applicable legislation.

• Accessibility legislation does not apply to content stored in the repository prior to 23 September 2018. The content is not updated, nor is it needed for handling unfinished matters with the authorities.
• The repository contains self-archived publications that have initially been published elsewhere. These publications are not produced, funded, or supervised by the University of XXX, and therefore accessibility legislation does not apply to them.

Accessibility Status of the Service

This website is compliant with critical accessibility requirements. The website is not yet fully compliant with all the requirements.

Accessibility of the Publications

The following deficiencies have been found in the accessibility of publications entered into the repository after 23 September 2018:

• The primary language of the file has not been specified and no title has been specified in file properties or the title is incorrect.
• The reading order of the content has not been specified.
• Images, figures and tables lack text alternatives.
• The contrast ratio between text and its background is not sufficient.
• Some of the publications, for example doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s theses, may include third party content, such as articles published elsewhere. The accessibility requirement does not apply to third party content.

The faculties and degree programmes at the University of Oulu have introduced a document template to facilitate making theses accessible. In spite of this, accessibility deficiencies may still be found in theses. Accessibility has not been fully taken into account in the document templates and instructions for all publication series.
