Tiivistelmä
Peatland restoration is a complex ecological process that benefits from continuous environmental monitoring. To support these restoration efforts, we designed a low-power IoT sensor system that continuously tracks key soil and water parameters in peatlands. The system integrates soil moisture, water level, and redox potential sensors with a microcontroller and is designed for low-energy operation. A solar power unit sustains the hardware for off-grid use, while a cellular connection provides real-time data transmission to a cloud platform for analysis.
Laboratory tests demonstrated reliable sensor performance, stable wireless communication, and efficient power management. These positive results indicate readiness for deployment in peatland restoration sites, where the system will provide continuous field data. This autonomous monitoring solution is important for ecological monitoring and restoration, offering data-driven insights for better management of sensitive peatland ecosystems.
