Tiivistelmä
In the 21st century video games have become massively popular all around the world providing entertainment for billions of people. Recent studies have explored the application of machine learning in video game development, with many areas of video gaming being looked at for new possibilities and ways to create more immersive experiences for the players. Video games are considered safe and controlled environments and for that reason they could be considered ideal playgrounds for conducting machine learning research and testing. In this study we explore the recent research landscape for new machine learning applications for video games and how these may change the way games are developed. Some ideas explored in this paper include the usage of machine learning in contexts of NPCs, game systems, moderation, and meta-applications such as developer tools. In addition to searching for new applications we are taking look into possible challenges that come with the implementation of machine learning into video games and their development.
