Abstract
This study examined latent profiles of parental involvement, adolescent activity, and trust and collaboration among parents of Finnish adolescents (14–17 years old) and how these profiles differ by the adolescents’ psychosocial well-being, gender, and socioeconomic status. The study used two data samples collected in 2023 from middle school students’ parents (N = 379) and high school students’ parents (N = 719). The analyses were performed using latent class analysis. Three profiles were identified in both samples: high trust and high activity (69%/61%), high trust and low activity (23%/30%), and low trust and moderate activity (8%/9%) profiles. The results showed that parents who perceived their adolescents as having challenges in psychosocial well-being more often belonged to the profile characterized by lower adolescent activity or lower trust and higher school involvement. In contrast, parents of high prosocial behaviour students more often belonged to the profile characterized by high trust and adolescent activity and lower school involvement.
