Tiivistelmä
Data security has emerged as a critical concern for both organizations and individuals, with a particular focus on safeguarding health data. Within the healthcare sector, data breaches have been especially impactful due to the confidential and sensitive nature of health information. This thesis investigates the repercussions of health data breaches on individuals utilizing health information systems, with a specific examination conducted among students at the University of Oulu. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study utilises both quantitative and qualitative data collection via an online questionnaire hosted on Google Forms. The findings underscore user fears regarding the safety of their personal data following reports of data breaches within the healthcare domain. Such fear often leads to a decline in user confidence and trust in a healthcare provider's ability to deliver high-quality services. As such, this thesis sheds light on users’ viewpoint on the security of their data held in health information systems. By exploring the interrelated components of user experiences, preferences, and concerns, this thesis offers valuable and actionable insights to healthcare providers for enhancing the privacy and security of users’ data within digital ecosystems.
