Abstract
Purpose:
The study identifies the key takeaways which characterizes the importance of learning environment at the university for future workplace. The term work today involves both performing tasks and actively learning on and about these tasks. Thus, learning is essential for a new workplace.
Study design/methodology/approach:
The study examines the impacts from having implemented the studio pedagogy known as the LAB Studio Model (LSM) during 2014-2018. This model was implemented through the Oamk LABs educational program at Oulu University of Applied Sciences in Finland. In addition to the immediate (from repeated observations), the enduring effects (after 5 years) from informal sessions are gathered.
Findings:
Altogether, the study identified 12 key takeaways that contribute positively to learning and motivation to learn. These key takeaways are important for the preparation of a future workforce.
Originality/value:
The LSM appears to help prepare the university graduates for Industry 4.0 challenges and opportunities.
