Tiivistelmä
The goal of this master's thesis was to find out why on-the-job training is needed and secondly how to create a value adding training program. The thesis discusses firstly the necessity of workplace training from the perspective of educational economics. Secondly the subject of review is the way in which workplace training should be implemented. This study highlights the role of education in improving productivity by investing in the human capital of employees in organizations and the importance of social capital and well-being in individual as well as organizational performance. The study also discusses the benefits of on-the-job training and continuous learning, such as improved work motivation, productivity, and satisfaction.
This study gathered data through interviews involving individuals responsible for Valmet's project activities. The research material comprises of four interviews. The study follows a qualitative approach, specifically employing a phenomenological hermeneutic approach. This approach focuses on comprehending the participants' experiences as they perceive them and aims to highlight these experiences through interpretation and the theoretical framework used in this study.
This thesis work emphasizes the importance of success in previous studies, self-discipline, continuous development, and participation in on-the-job training as indicators of an individual's potential and their impact on future work performance and organizational success. It highlights the significance of both education and training in qualifying individuals for the labor market and as a positive signal to employers regarding an individual's abilities and ambition. The 70-20-10 learning model, along with mentoring, coaching, and observation, are presented as effective approaches to workplace training and skill development. Overall, investing in on-the-job training and creating a learning culture can contribute to individual growth, job satisfaction, and organizational success.
